BANJO - SCRUGGS STYLE FUNDAMENTALS

Scruggs style banjo instruction is a method of teaching beginners how to play the banjo in a unique fingerpicking style created by Earl Scruggs. This style involves using three fingers on the right hand to pick the strings, with the thumb picking the fifth string and the index and middle fingers picking the remaining strings. Scruggs style banjo instruction covers the basics of holding and tuning the instrument, and progresses to teaching students how to play rolls, chords, and melodies using Scruggs style techniques. Students may also learn how to incorporate other styles of banjo playing, such as clawhammer or bluegrass, into their Scruggs style playing.

MANDOLIN - BLUEGRASS, GOSPEL AND FOLK FUNDAMENTALS

As a bluegrass and folk mandolin teacher, my primary focus is on teaching students how to play the mandolin in the context of traditional American music. This includes learning the basic chords, scales, and techniques used in bluegrass and folk music, as well as exploring the history and culture of these musical genres. I work with students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players, and tailor my lessons to their individual needs and goals. Whether you're interested in playing in a band, performing solo, or just want to learn a new instrument for fun, I can help you achieve your musical aspirations.

MY STORY

Hi everyone! I have been both playing and teaching for +25 years with backgrounds in Rock, Country, Blues and Bluegrass. I enjoy playing as well as understanding the theory and technical aspects of music. I have the ability to develop rapport with students, which helps the learning process and overall enjoyment of learning to play. I like working with beginners as well as those with experience. My focus is to get a student to the point of being able to play in a real world setting and not just repetitive practice. If you are interested in learning more feel free to contact me and thank you!
